This full day summer art camp builds skills while exploring participants own self expression and creativity. Local artists are utilized to teach and mentor youth in various mediums as well as guide them in the production and promotion of their art. Activities will include an array of mediums such as fused glass, lampwork, metal, jewelry making, resin, fashion re-design, clay, painting, and more! Participant's work will be highlighted at the end of the week with a special exhibition. |
What: A program where young people operate an art studio, gallery and organize shows exhibiting their work in the Austin community. Local artists are utilized to teach and mentor youth in various artistic mediums as well as guide them in the production and promotion of their art.
Approach: Youth Development is an approach to structuring programs, services, systems, and supports for youth so that young people develop the skills and competencies they need to thrive as they enter adulthood; ensuring their capacity for meaningful contributions to their community.
Why: Many young people are not aware that careers in art, the diy movement or learning the entrepreneurial aspects of art are viable options in today’s society. This program uses art as the vehicle for young people to explore and learn skills necessary to develop life and career skills.
Who: Target population is at-risk youth who have interest in art/diy or art industry as a possible career choice but do not have access to resources to explore that potential.
At the heart of this project are young people, particularly teenagers, interested in exploring art, fashion design, animation, graphic design, the diy movement, marketing, advertising, and business. Many young people have creative interests but may not be in a setting where those talents are developed. diyY will provide an avenue for exploring their own creative drive along with learning about the possibility of vocation through art.
