Professional Development

For 25 years, the Texas Network of Youth Services has been synonymous with quality education and support for youth service organizations. Youthwork professionals rely on us for state-of-the-science, state-of-the-art, and state-of-the-practice training and support. Our XL Institute uses a competency-based, strengths-oriented approach to training and consultation; facilitating discovery of what participants are already doing well, and exploring ways to do more of what works to increase effectiveness. Our methods are based on social learning theory and adult education - methods that amplify competencies and maximize learning. The format used (present, practice, discuss) encourages active engagement, ensures understanding, and connects to participants' pre-workshop repertoire in ways that ensure post-workshop success. Click on the XL Institute Offerings tab for more information about the types of services we provide. To schedule an XL Institute training or consultation, please contact Kim Schenck at (512) 328-6860 or email kschenck@tnoys.org.

  • The Training Calendar tab lists trainings currently scheduled and available to all youth service professionals (TNOYS members are eligible for a reduced rate), as well as recently provided trainings.
  • See the Conference tab for information about the TNOYS Annual Conference.
  • Youth serving agencies have benefited from numerous training and technical assistance (T&TA) grants and contracts awarded to TNOYS over the years; these allow TNOYS to deliver T&TA services at free or nominal costs, although access may be restricted. The ongoing relationship and services TNOYS has maintained with these programs (even after grants/contracts have ended) is reflected in the tab called "Program Specific Services."

Quality

"Again and again, TNOYS has succeeded in raising the bar and helping youth-care providers reach that bar, so that Texas itself can succeed in the grueling work of helping socially marginalized youth believe in themselves and reach their potential." -Christine Sinatra, Texans Care for Children, Austin
