TNOYS Legislative Priorities

Prior to each legislative session, TNOYS develops a list of legislative priorities based on input from our membership, as well as other stakeholders and advocacy groups.  Below are our legislative priorities for the 82nd Texas Legislative Session, which will convene on January 11, 2011, and links to past lists of TNOYS legislative priorities. 

TNOYS Legislative Priorities for the 82nd Texas Legislative Session:

1. Maintain funding for the programs housed within the Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) division at the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). 

2. Maintain the current funding to support sub-contracted foster care services. 

3.  Maintain and improve supports and services for youth transitioning out of foster care. 

4. Increase state agency collaboration to better meet the needs of runaway and homeless youth.

5. Promote the incorporation of the Positive Youth Development (PYD) philosophy within the state systems that serve children and youth.
